We started because we believed the status quo wasn't good enough, and that real change requires showing up as partners, not just providers.
Africa Community Development was founded by people with nearly a decade of combined experience working on the ground in Malawi and Kenya, building agricultural communities, affordable housing, and livelihoods from scratch.
As we saw communities flourish economically, we kept encountering the same walls: children with no school to attend. Parents with no clinic nearby. Farmers with no training to grow more. We realized the next step wasn't just building homes and growing crops. It was extending stability into every area of life.
Africa Community Development was born to do exactly that: expand into health and education while staying rooted in the agricultural and relational foundation that already exists. We're not starting from scratch. We're building on what works.
"From creating stability to extending stability. That's the shift that changed everything."
Our founding team brings over half a decade of on-the-ground experience working in Malawi.
We're not starting from zero. Our founding team brings over half a decade of experience working in Malawi prior to launching Africa Community Development, with a track record of employing 125+ local staff, producing millions of pounds of vegetables, and building and financing over 30 homes using local materials and local labor.
That depth of experience means we understand the context, the culture, and the challenges. We're not learning as we go. We're applying what already works.
The world doesn't need another organization that parachutes in, runs a program, and leaves. We're building something different, rooted in relationship, measured by outcomes, and committed for the long haul.
Large organizations often design programs in offices far from the communities they serve, with limited input from the people most affected.
We train local Holistic Community Officers from within the village to lead change in their own neighborhoods, because people listen to their neighbors.
Most non-profits focus on a single problem: food, or school, or healthcare. But poverty doesn't work in silos, and neither do we.
We connect givers directly to the families they support. You'll hear updates, see photos, and know the names of people your dollars are reaching.
A disproportionate share of large non-profit budgets go to administration and fundraising, not the communities they serve.
We share real-time impact updates, actual budget numbers, and honest assessments of what's working and what needs to improve.
These aren't slogans, they're the principles that shape every decision we make on the ground.
We don't ask communities to come to us. We go to them, physically, culturally, and relationally.
We're not here for a season. We commit to long-term presence and partnership, not short-term visits.
We use local materials, local labor, and local knowledge to stretch every dollar as far as it can go.
From tablet-based savings tracking to online learning, we use practical tools to multiply impact without multiplying cost.
We study what has worked in development globally, drawing from the legacy of people like Paul Farmer, and adapt it to our context.
Our supporters deserve to know exactly how their money is used. We share the good, the hard, and the in-between.
We give donors direct access to what's happening on the ground, because giving should feel like a living relationship, not a transaction.
We're a small team with deep roots, built across two continents, united by the same conviction.
Sarah leads our agricultural programs. She has managed a team of 50 people and overseen more than 1.6 million pounds of vegetable harvests.
Happy leads our on-the-ground community operations in Malawi, building the relationships that make everything else possible.
Michael co-founded Africa Community Development drawing on experience working in Malawi and Kenya, with a conviction that holistic, relationship-first development can change everything.
Your support doesn't just fund programs, it connects you directly to families in Malawi who are working hard to build a better future.
